I was born on April 23, 1967 in Fort Worth, Texas. I am the second child of Fred
and Faye Evans, and have one brother (Ted), who is 8 1/2 years older than me.
I grew up in Haltom City, a suburb of Fort Worth. My High School Alma Mater is Haltom High School. I lettered in band, playing percussion in the Concert and Jazz Band and a member of the Drum Corps in the Marching Band. I was also a photographer for the Yearbook staff, and began my Computer career in a Computer Math class my senior year. (Thank you, Mrs. Masters!)
My dad (whom I call "Pop") and brother are very talented men whom I owe a
great deal of thanks. They have taught me many, many trades, starting at the age
if five when I started helping them wire houses. I have learned many trades,
including electrician, builder, plumber, woodworker, and all-around handyman. My
mother (whom I called "Mom!") was also very influential, teaching me things most
guys don't know, such as how to cook, sew (yes, I said sew!).
My first, steady job was at a Kroger food store in Haltom City (during High School). Nothing special, just your basic job. I went from bagging groceries to selling men's shirts and ties at the Sanger Harris in North Richland Hills (now Foley's). I also taught swimming for my next-door neighbor, as well as doing some freelance lifeguarding.
Next, I moved on to an Assistant Manager job for SCUBA Safari in the Hulen area. I had been SCUBA diving for about a year, and took that opportunity to become more proficient and learned in the sport. I currently hold Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Equipment Maintenance, Night Diving, Deep Diving and Rescue certifications. The Scuba industry is a tough one, so I moved on from there to working as a salesman and Ski Tech at The Ski Place in Hurst. I repaired, mounted and waxed snow skis, as well as sell winter and water-sports clothing and equipment.
After graduating from High School in 1985, and while I worked these various jobs, I was attending college at the University of Texas at Arlington. My initial goal was a major in Computer Science Engineering. However, my little mind couldn't quite grasp Differential Equations and all the math, physics and engineering courses it took (just to program a computer), so I switched majors to Information Systems. I also joined the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity and held Pledge Class President, Historian, and a few other titles. I finally graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems in the fall of 1991. During this period of my life I started visiting the North Side area of Fort Worth, also known as the Stockyards, with by best-friend Thomas. It was here that I became quite proficient at the Country-Western bar scene, dancing until the wee hours of the morning.
In 1989, thanks to my next-door neighbors (who I taught swimming for until 1991), I was introduced to the President of Micro Computer Systems. I was offered a job and worked there as a software engineer for 12 years. During that time, I worked on some projects with Microsoft, and became the lead developer for Calypso, an award-winning email program. I got laid off in July of 2001, and went to work for myself...
Specialty Sound was founded in 1989 by myself and my best friend, Korby Kidwill. Specialty Sound grew out of a love of music and entertaining people and is now one of the top DJ services in the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex. Specialty Sound performs at weddings, corporate events, and school dances. My full-time occupation is now as office manager, salesperson, and DJ of Specialty Sound.
Well, I guess I should include some of my hobbies and interests, which vary. Firstly I would say that I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like to hunt, and work with my hands. Frequent vacations are a must; I've been lucky enough to have visited Hawaii, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Germany, Austria, England, Wales, Scotland, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, St. Thomas, Cozumel, and the Cayman Islands, to name a few exotic locales. A member of Glenview Baptist Church since 1990, I am blessed to be one of their sound engineers.
I got married in 1995 and moved out of the house (yes, I still lived with my dad - my mom passed away in 1995), where I still live. After my divorce (some things just aren't meant to be!), I began frequenting Cowboys in Arlington, a (very) large Country-Western dance club. That's where I met the Most Wonderful Woman in the World (my wife, Cindy). For more information on that, you'll have to read how we met!
